Recording Diary: Day 5 – Frustrating Guitar Day!!!!

Posted on20.06.2009 by kris in Blog

Hi People!

Kris here again and what a day I’ve had. I’ve been working on the guitar parts. The additional rhythm parts, little guitar licks and lines are all coming along nicely and the songs are starting to really take on a more polished, layered feel. I laid down a total of 6 different guitar parts for the tune “Only One Heart” and when I come to record “I’ll Come Around” I will end up doing the same… layered, fat sound!

Warren came in and laid down a new bass line for “Only One Heart” and the video you can see HERE. He also came up with a new “walking” bass line for “Feel The Same” and recorded these both within 3-4 takes! The guy’s a legend. I however took over 50 takes to do the solo in “Just Can’t Make It On My Own” and I was getting pretty angry at that!

Today’s video blog is here. I’m off home to learn some guitar :-) Byeeeeeeeeee

Recording Diary: Day 4 – Redone 4 tunes…

Posted on20.06.2009 by kris in Blog

Hey there! Just a quick update today. We decided to redo the first 4 songs we recorded on day 1 as we thought we could be tighter and could get better tones on the recording. So, we re recorded “Feel The Same”, “One Chance”, “Would It Make A Difference” and “You Don’t Know Me” and we are over the moon with these versions. In fact, we recorded these 4 songs in just over 2 hours! Not bad, eh?

Now Warren and Elmar are done. Warren might re do one bass part in “Only One Heart” and maybe come up with another part for “Feel The Same”. Elmar is done and taken down his drums. Now it’s over to me to lay down the remaining guitar parts and vocals. Going to be a lot of work… but it’s all working out superbly! This could be a great CD :-) Night night!

Recording Diary: Day 3 – Pop, R’n'B, Tamberines and Johnny!

Posted on20.06.2009 by kris in Blog

Here’s Johnny! Hi Guys and Gals!

Today was a great day as we finished recording the remaining rhythm tracks! All 12 songs are done. We took our time working on the more pop and “I’ll Come Around”, “Only One Heart” and “Get Away” and experimented on sounds to get some variations to our normal direct rock/blues sound. These 3 songs need a bit more in terms of production as these could be lifted from the CD for promotion and radio. “I’ll Come Around” is a driving pop song that has now be subjected to a reworked bass line that is more melodic than we originally wrote. Thomas, our producer came up with some great ideas for this song and they all worked! As for our R’n'B numer “Only One Heart” this song sounds awesome after we added a tamberine to the percussion part… who would have thought that adding such an instrument would give us the vide we’re after? Very soulful backing on this song! And then we finished with “Get Away”… job done. All 12 songs are finished… tomorrow we’re going to listen back to them and see if there are any parts we should redo as now we’re nicely warmed up and tight!

Today’s little video for you is here…. CU Kris.

Recording Diary: Day 2 – You Damn Right I’ve Got The Blues!

Posted on20.06.2009 by kris in Blog

Day 2 was all about the blues! We worked on laying down the rhythm sections for the blues rock songs, “Fallin Down”, “Got To Be The Blues”, “Got 2 Let U Go” and “Sorry”. We’re certainly used to be in the studio now and feel very relaxed working with Thomas. The atmosphere is great and we’re having a good time. I’m really tired so I’m gonna keep this blog today short. Check out the video for a little guided tour of where we’re recording… more tomorrow…

Recording Diary: Day 1 – Set up, Lost camera and Pizza!

Posted on15.06.2009 by kris in Blog

Yo yo yo! Well day 1 is over and it’s been very productive. I am extremely tired now as we’ve been in the studio for almost 12 hours. Here’s a little run down of what’s happened today….

We arrived at 10:30am and built up the equipment. We’re in a big room, all facing eachother and the ambient lighting really makes for a nice atmosphere. After the soundcheck we discussed the songs with Thomas our sound technician. He quickly got an idea of the type of thing we’re trying to record and we set up the amps and drums to suit this style. We want a big sounding, direct, raw sound…

I then wanted to start taking some photos and realised that I’d misplaced my camera. Damn, I thought… where could I have put it? Cue a big american style Missing Person’s Man Hunt. To no avail. My new panasonic camera was gone :-( I tried to focus on the music but all I could think of was where was my new baby, I’d only had it 3 weeks….
